Hi, I was going to buy this newer USB 3.0 tester rather than your older USB 2.0 tester until someone pointed out to me that the maximum voltage on the 3.0 is only 7V as compared to the 2.0 which is higher at 13V. Is the 7V maximum on the 3.0 a mistake on the Amazon description?

I’m not so sure it has data pass-through therefore one would not be able to transfer files, etc. through this device. I think the older 2.0 version does have data pass-through but limited to usb 2.0 speeds.

The data set 0 is the temporarily stored data of last time and it will flash when you turn on the product next time to remind you the measured data of last time.

Direct Mode is that the two signal wires in the middle are conducted directly. In this mode, the USB port can support data transmission.
Quick charge mode is that the two signal wires in the middle are connected to a special charging chip which can simulate various quick charge agreement from different manufactures. In this mode, it can make different device matched automatically and achieve to charge quickly.
Disconnected mode is that the two signal wires are disconnected. In this mode, the USB port cannot transfer data either support QC 2.0 quick charge.This mode mainly for charging for some mobile phone which only need to connect the positive and negative side when charging.

I bought an older version of the meter on amazon.ca for $27. then I found out about the upgraded one so I am going to return the older one. the upgraded one seems to come in two versions. one for $33 and another labelled “protector” for $35. If a reader is confused about these two models, scroll above to 8 April 2016 where Drok posts PDFs of the two. Keep in mind there is a 3rd older model as well (that appears to be USB 2.0 only).

yes that is helpful. in fact I got the USB Protector today! I prefer it over the USB 2.0 version. I have a couple questions: the temperature reading seems to be off by quite a bit. its reading 30C when the temp outside is 20C – is there a way to calibrate the temperature reading? how do you switch the display into black on white? thanks!

The max. input/measured current of these two products are 3A, please do not exceed it, otherwise, the meter will be burnt.
#180043 does not support QC3.0, it supports QC2.0.
#180055 supports QC3.0, but it cannot support the max.voltage of QC3.0(20V), the measured voltage range of this product is DC 3.7-13V.

I noticed on the Amazon (US) webpage for the 4 in 1 USB multimeter that the OLED USB 3.0 does not work with inductive loads (motors, PC cooling fans, etc.). The run time function is the operating time when the meter is powered on, which cannot work for testing the power dropout.
As your description, do you mean you want to test if the USB line has power consumption during converting power?
Generally speaking, all the USB line will have power consumption during converting power.
The better quality the USB line has, the less power consumption it has.
And you can use this product to depend which USB line with better quality by the charging current.

Hi Drok, buy your product and wanted to know several things.
I have a device with fast charging, but 9V does not measure well mAh, I mean I have a battery of 3220mAh and 5V measured well, gives me 3xxxmAh, but if charging 9V remains to 17xxmAh, reads like 5V instead of going up much faster than 9V
Is that so or am I doing something wrong? I have it in standard USB mode and have tried the other 2 modes and nothing.
Another thing, I have other brands meters (KCX-017 and KCX-045) and when it finishes loading the amperage set to 0, instead reading yours remains a very small number (eg. 0,012A)

For the first question that the test capacitance values of 5V charging and 9V charging are different.
mAh is an accumulated unit.When using 9V to charge, the charging time will be less than using 5V to charge, so the accumulated value will be less. But the calculated battery capacitance is the same.
The norminal volateg of battery is 3.7V.
So the calculated value of using the tested value of 5V charging multiply by 5 and then devided by 3.7 and the calculated value of using the tested value of 9V charging multiply by 9 and then devided by 3.7 are the same.
mAh cannot represent the stored power of the battery.
mWh can represent the real stored power of the battery.
For the second question that the product still display 0.012A when finish loading.
Because some electrical device such as mobile phone will have current consumption when they standby.This small currentis used to replenish the current consumption whenthey are full charged. The standby current is very small.
If the accuracy of the meter is not high enough or this is in the range of error, it will not be displayed.

Stinky Cheese posted: Capacitance is to ensure what you have connected does not exceed the USB specification, including the added capacitance of the USB cabling though that is usually quite small relative to capacitor(s) in the connected device.
For example, the inrush current can be excessive if you start daisy chaining unpowered hubs. It can blow your USB port circuit, or worse a subcircuit in a motherboard chipset. That’s a bit obscure feature to place in the hands of the average hobbyist, but I imagine they went ahead and did it because the IC they used supported it so virtually no extra cost to do.

The value of “C” displayed on the meter is the charging/discharging cumulative capacitance.
This is not the real capacitance of the power supply/power bank.
Take charging for a power bank as an example.
When we charfe for the power bank, the charging voltage is 5V in general, but the real voltage range of a lithium battery is 3.4-4.2V.
So there is a buck voltage regulator board between the input of charging voltage and the battery.
There is a conversion efficiency, which is 85% in general.
And the value of “C” displays on the meter is the real capacitance of the input terminal.
For the the capacitance of a power bank, here is the formular: Cb=Cm*Vm/Vb/E%
Cb is the calculated capacitance of the power bank;
Cm is the value of “C” displayed on the meter, the real capacitance of a full-charged power bank discharged totally.
Vm is the output voltage of the power bank, 5V in usual.
Vb is the inside voltage of the power bank, which is 3.7V in usual.
E% is the conversion efficiency, different power bank with different conversion efficiency, 85%-90% in general.

Just received the DROM USB Meter today and when plugging into a fully charged 10,000 mah powerbank the only read out is the voltage. Tried other PB’s, and AC chargers and the same thing. do i need to to do anything further besides plugging it in. i purchased the device to measure actual PowerBank Capacities.

Just received the USB 3.0 (180043) and am very happy with it thus far! but I have a quick question. In QuickCharge mode, am I right in thinking that the data pins are only used in order to negotiate optimum charging levels and that any other data communication is turned off?
