I bought this unit from Amazon to use as a dimmer for led strip lights. Lights are rated at 12vdc, 4w / ft. I have <17 ft, so ~68w / ~5.7a. The unit will dim throughout the range for a while. After a few minutes at full power, the unit gets warm and the lights dim with the voltage dropping to 8 to 9 vdc.
Is this unit defective?
Hello Mike,
There are two yellow self-recover fuses inside the module. Your problem may be caused by the over-temperature protection.
Could you open the metal shell and find out the four tin points which are marked by yellow frame in the attached picture. Then connect the four tin points by soldering as the attached picture below. By the way of this, the fuse will not work. If you still want the protection function, you can connect the four tin points by a 5-6A fuse.
Hope this will be helpful to you.
