We are looking for something to automate the schedule in our company so as not to waste time on constant adjustments. But, frankly, I have some doubts: how effectively does automatic scheduling work in Shifton? Is it worth relying entirely on automatic settings or is it better to manually control the process? Does anyone already use it actively? Share your experience, it would be great to hear the opinions of other users.

Automatic scheduling is certainly convenient, but there are several nuances that are important to consider. Firstly, the schedule generator for employees can adapt the schedule taking into account various factors: employee preferences, their availability, legislation on working hours, and even seasonal fluctuations, if you have, for example, a business with peak periods. However, like any automation, the system requires initial setup. It is necessary to correctly enter all the parameters so that the algorithm “works” correctly and there are no situations when an employee gets too many or too few shifts. I started with automatic scheduling and was pleasantly surprised how quickly the system arranged shifts, but, frankly speaking, then I encountered the fact that automation sometimes makes “mistakes”. For example, if one of the employees had special requests for days of the week or hours, and the system simply ignored them because they were not entered correctly in the settings. Then I realized that it was important to check these automatic schedules sometimes before approving them, so that conflict situations did not arise, especially in large teams. I switched to a combined mode: the system generates the first option, and I correct it manually, which gives an ideal balance.

I work in a company where a balance between these two methods is needed to make it convenient for both employees and management. In principle, I think Shifton is a cool solution, but I think the ideal approach is a combination of both functions. Sometimes automation can give a good start, but you still can’t do without manual settings, especially when you need to take into account all sorts of last-minute changes.
