testing batteries with shunt

I purchased the amp n volt meter with shunt to test amperages in 7.2 volt 6.5 amp batteries. Can I connect the positive to shunt and negative to shunt with a switch in line to negative and not use a load. Thank you, Brian

Hello Brian McCreary，

Could you please offer a product link or other inforamtion so that we can confirm which meter it is? And without load, there is no current, it is impossible for meter to monitor current.
