I have the 50amp version of your 20amp DC volt/amp meter panel, the YB4835VA, which comes with a 50A shunt.
Q: For checking current that is less than 20 amps is the shunt STILL required?
It does not seem to work on low amperage unless the shunt is connected (even when tested with 1.0 amps).
Thanks in advance

But the wiring diagram on the backside definitely states it as YB4835VA. And it works as a DC meter. Maybe the wrong label was used by mistake?

The product’s weblink states: “IF THE CURRENT IS HIGHER THAN 20A, A SHUNT IS REQUIRED TO USE”. So doesn’t this mean I do NOT need the shunt if the current is LESS than 20A?
Hello Kris,
Please kindly notice this item has 20A specification. https://www.amazon.com/DROK-Multimeter-Three-Digit-Voltmeter-Three-wire/dp/B01M7R7JPJ/?th=1
So if you buy one with over 20A range, shunt is necessary.
